Big Cook, Little Cook

Big Cook and Little Cook run a cafe for Fairy Story characters.  You quickly
get an idea of the budget - "Snow White's in today", but do we ever actually
get a peek through at the cafe?  No we don't.

OK, so you get the feeling as you go along that this all might just be
happening inside the head of Big Cook.  (Rather like my suspicion that
Balamory is entirely the fantasy world of Miss Hoolie.)

Certainly Big Cook is a man who struggles to get through the day, battling
with depression.  The actor clearly isn't coping with lowering himself to kids
TV; just watch him sink each time he delivers a gag.  He needs to take a
lesson from Plumber Pete on
Boogie Beebies.

His six inch high, badly hair-cutted friend, Little Cook, works hard to jolly him
through each episode, whilst they prepare a "meal" for the unseen Fairy
Story guest star.

Special effects make Rent-a-Ghost look cutting edge, however ultimately
the show is worthy.  It does introduce kids to the idea of cooking and
presents recipes that they could tackle with a parent's help.  I just can't help
worrying about the big fella.

CBeebies has just announced 'new episodes', ie series two.  The trailer
shows Big Cook, now looking like he's been slung out of home, and taken
to sleeping behind the counter in the cafe.  Poor guy.

New News

Nick Jr has announced a rip-off show about cooking for children.  They
appear to have copied Big Cook Little Cook right down to the manically
depressed looking main character.
