Lazy Town

Bing Bang Ding-a-ding dong.  Silly words I sing when I am dancing.
Bing Bang Ding-a-ding dong.  Funny words that can mean anything.

Welcome to the world of Lazytown.  A tremendous show, with probably the
biggest budget in kids TV and the best thing to come out of Iceland since,
eh, well, ever.

Lazy Town is the brainchild of Magnus Scheving, who plays Sportacus in the
show.  Magnus was the European Aerobics Champion a number of times.
Given that not much ever happens in Iceland, this small feat promoted him
to the ranks of major celebrity in his homeland.  He found himself frequently
required to speak on the subject of childhood health and nutrition.  Being a
fairly astute businessman, this lead him to create a book and then a theatre
production called Lazy Town.  Nickleodeon liked what they saw, and the rest
is history.

Magnus is a bit of a control freak - his name appears in the end credits on
nine separate occasions (maybe more, I might have missed some).  The
obvious flaw in the show is that he took the starring role for himself and
neglected to notice that he can't act.  At all.

The Lazy Town world is a beautiful mixture of actors, puppets and CGI
(apparently Quentin Tarentino visited the studios to try to see how on earth
they make it.)

Stephanie is new to town, staying with her uncle.  She soon makes friends in
Ziggy, Pixel, Stingy and Trixie.  The adults in Lazy Town are, well, lazy.
However the kids are determined to stay active and with the help of
superhero Sportacus, they enjoy a life of sports, dancing and healthy eating.

However, arch-villian Robbie Rotten is always on hand to try to reduce the
kids to the lazy bunch of shirkers that the adults in town have become.
Robbie, despite being a Jim Carey rip-off, adds a great comic element to the
show.  As you'd expect Sportacus is always on hand to save the day and
dish out some moral advice along the way.

Some great things about Lazy Town:

It's a show about superheroes, which kids love, but without any violence.

All the children characters aren't annoyingly perfect brats.  They are human
with the character flaws that all humans have.  Stingy is a personal favourite
- "It's mine!"

The music - okay, it's a bit Venga Boys, but great for jumping about the
living room to.

The show gives out an unswervingly positive message about healthy living,
team work and high moral values, without ever becoming too preachy.
