Peppa Pig

Once upon a time, two bitter old queens were sat drinking their
cosmopolitans and bitching about all the good things to do with fatherhood.
They decided to fight back against good dads everywhere and came up with
Peppa Pig.

The first thing you’ll notice is the unrelenting barrage of abuse aimed at the
character of Daddy Pig.  He’s lazy, over-weight, stupid, can’t do DIY and just
about anything else you can poke fun at him for.

OK, that’s the tirade over.  I wouldn’t mind if Daddy Pig didn’t resemble me
(and plenty of other dads out there) so much.  I actually, really and truly, love
Peppa Pig.  Go on, I’ll give you a minute whilst you pick yourself up and get a
glass of water to recover.

Dum-de-dum.  Dumpedy-dum-dum-dum.

Oh, there you are.

Anyway.  Peppa Pig is the story of the know-it-all 5 year old of the title, her
little brother George (who can only say ‘Dinosaur’) and her Mummy and
Daddy.  We follow their adventures in muddy puddles, rock pools, beaches,
castles, nursery, ballet class, camping trips and much more and the warm
humour appeals to both children and adults alike.

We also learn a little too much about the animal kingdom than is pleasant for
our children.  Mummy and Daddy Pig are seen to be the only two pigs in the
nursery class of yesteryear (in the time capsule episode) and with only one
set of grand-parents in sight, the phrase 'restricted gene-pool' springs to
mind.  I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions.
